IPWS Breakfast Conversations is a new event series that allows a small group of IPWS members come together to talk about topics that matter for a balanced and successful professional life. This opportunity to learn, share, and build meaningful relationships is held under the guidance of a conversation leader.
For the first IPWS Breakfast Conversation, held earlier this month, we were honored to have Heidi Dugan with us to talk about the keys to personal branding — how to position ourselves intentionally and consciously and how to overcome specific challenges faced in doing so.
CONVERSATION NOTES
As a TV host with a show that has been airing for 19 years to 6 million viewers daily, and as an entrepreneur, author, health and wellness KOL, and mother, Heidi shared many valuable insights on personal branding and its challenges:
💡 Beyond clothing, personal branding is about the impact you want to have on those who cross your path. Heidi asks herself every morning, “How can I be the light for someone else?”
💡 Bring into your professional and public life what your friends say they love about you. You will be most successful in your hobby.
💡 Your personal brand is also about the words you chose to use and the things you say to yourself.
💡If it’s been done before, I can do it. If I can’t do, I can pay for it.
💡 No one can judge you on your personal branding. Ask yourself, “Who is this person? Do I care about their opinion? Is what they’re trying to achieve the same as what you’re trying to achieve?”
💡 Don’t pass your problems on to others. “It’s not ok for me to pass on to someone else I’m not happy.”
💡 If you feel fear, you are probably on the right track. If you don’t go into the darkness, you aren’t learning.
💡 The teacher will appear when the student is ready.
💡 Enjoy the process every single day.
