David Henry is a US American from the tiny State of Rhode Island who has lived in Shanghai for 30 years. He taught at Shanghai International Studies University, Overseas Training Department and at the College of English, graduate program in Intercultural Communications. There he was part of the teaching team that built the SISU program into the largest Intercultural Communications degree program in the world. In 2009, he and his partners founded Jonas Emil Coffee Roasters one of the first specialty coffee roasters in modern Shanghai. It was as coffee roaster he first joined the Jiashan Market when it opened in 2012 as a western style farmers’ market where expat entrepreneurs could meet the demands of fellow expats for home-culture foods and handcrafts not readily available in Shanghai. David assumed management of the market in 2017 and has worked to expand the number of venues for vendors to market their products under the umbrella brand JS Markets.
