Join us for an Intergalactic Celebration during WLA 2024!

We’re thrilled to announce a unique and interactive experience at this year’s award ceremony.

· In collaboration with emerging young artist Feiyang Zhang, we invite all guests to decorate a starry art installation that celebrates the IPWS community and WLA!

· What to Expect: During the event, write down your thoughts, congratulations, even whimsical musings on the envelopes and share them on the Intergalactic Envelope Exchange Wall.

· Come prepared: Take a look at the “How to Participate” section below.

· The Artist: Feiyang Zhang is a young artist trained at leading art academies in Hong Kong, the UK, and the U.S., with work exhibited in China, Turkey, Iran, and the U.S.

Words From Feiyang

I came up with the idea of the Wall of Envelopes because I’ve always enjoyed incorporating elements of surprise and interaction. It reminds me of the fun we had in high school with activities like Secret Santa, White Elephant, and scavenger hunts. These games brought a sense of playfulness and anticipation, making the unexpected moments thrilling and memorable.

I have listed some fun aspects of the wall of envelope exchange messages activity:

1. Element of Surprise

2. Mystery Involvement

3. Creative Expression

4. Keepsake Creation

5. Icebreaker

How to Participate?

1. Choose one word that celebrates the brilliance of women and/or the lights stars.

2. Craft a symbol or emoji that embodies this chosen word, a small tribute to its essence.

3. Then, write a message from the heart, meant to inspire the one who receives this note.

4. At the end of the celebration, everyone is welcome to pick an envelope to take home.

The Therapeutic Power of Group Activity

Group art therapy is an engaging way to enhance well-being through collective artistic activities that promote self-expression:

1. Group art therapy brings together individuals, fostering a sense of community.

2. Participants can share their experiences and emotions, reducing feelings of loneliness.

3. Art facilitates self-reflection which leads to self-discovery.

4. Art-making is soothing and calming.

Feiyang Zhang is an artist living in a world full of creative minds. Most of her work contains personal objects, photos of herself, family, and friends she has been keeping and collecting since childhood. She finds the process of keeping memorable items and turning them into artwork to be a nurturing method that binds memories into art. For her, objects are emotional triggers and time machines; they are organic, permanent, and mutable.

Her artistic manifesto is the exploration of her inner self and the expansion of her unique material language. She aims to push the limits of her creativity and discover a brand-new playground full of experimentation. Her artwork is an ongoing conversation with herself and the world around her, a journey of self-discovery where each piece depicts a chapter of her life story. She strives to capture the endless possibilities and stories of life as she reinterprets the world around her.

Feiyang is currently enrolled in the Expressive Art Therapy program at HKU. This notion derives from her experience as an art educator, where she discovered the transformative power of art, particularly its impact on the mental well-being of her students. Art provides a nonjudgmental platform that guides them through this difficult phase of life, serving as her therapeutic instrument. She wishes to use artistic expression to illuminate the hidden layers of life’s artistic sides, utilizing art as a catalyst for healing and self-understanding, not only for herself but also for others.
