What is Pecha Kucha? (ペチャクチャ) Originating in Tokyo, Japan, Pecha Kucha is a unique presentation style. Speakers show 20 images, each for 20 seconds, keeping presentations concise and fast-faced.  Our Pecha Kucha sessions will be slightly adapted with 10 slides x 10 minutes.

What is Design Thinking? 

A proven and repeatable problem-solving protocol that any business or professiononal can employ to achieve extraordinary results.

Design thinking generally consists of four key elements:

  1. Define the problem
  2. Create and consider options
  3. Refine selected directions
  4. Pick the winner and execute!

Bridget Beattie is Group Executive Vice President of the Asia Pacific Middle East region for Right Management, a global leader in talent and career management workforce solutions within ManpowerGroup. She is responsible for accelerating business growth and delivering career and talent management solutions that help employers align their workforce strategies with business goals. In addition, Bridget leads the Australia and New Zealand operations of Right Management as General Manager and leads Strategic Partnerships globally.

Bridget has an extensive background in senior management, consulting and the law gained over thirty years of experience. In 1994, she co-founded a leading New Zealand HR consultancy which was purchased by ManpowerGroup in 2000.

Throughout her career, she has consulted a range of organizations that have faced significant change through mergers, acquisitions, re-structuring and startups.

Bridget is qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor and a regular commentator in the Asia Pacific business press. Bridget and her family reside in Melbourne, Australia.


Michelle Garnaut is a seasoned restaurateur with a culinary career that spans over twenty-five years, several continents and positions that have ranged from chef to waiter to dishwasher, caterer and everything in between, culminating in proprietor in 1989. She is an enterprising pioneer who conceived businesses in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing with her signature “M’’ becoming an icon of fine dining, culture, comfort and style. Michelle has been honored with awards that include Entrepreneur of the Year (International Woman of Influence Awards) and the Business Entrepreneurial Award (ANZ Australian Business Awards) and more recently the inaugural Advance Australia Global Awards for Food.


Elisa Mallis is an experienced executive coach, speaker and human capital consultant.  She is currently Head of Executive Development and Coaching at MDS (Management Development Services), leading a team to deliver world-class leadership development and executive coaching sessions for multi-national and government organisations across Asia. Elisa has worked with Microsoft, Vodaphone, Lloyds TSB, and Toshiba, and has been quoted in leading media publications including CNN, Forbes and China Daily. This year, it was announced that Elisa will be one of the world’s first “commercial astronauts” to be taken into space.


Jerrie Ueberle is the Founder and President of Global Interactions, Inc., a Phoenix-based non-profit corporation focused to increase worldwide communication and understanding among US professionals and their international counterparts. Conferences, seminars, and study programs engage participants in sharing best practices, research, and technologies that contribute to identifying common concerns and discovering new methodologies for achieving results. In 2009 she founded the World Academy for the Future of Women to accelerate women’s leadership worldwide. The program is housed at the Sias International University campus and has expanded greatly year after year. The Academy gained recognition from the United Nations as a charter ASPIRE member in 2013.


Emmanuel Benbihy is a feature film producer, and creator of the Cities of Love franchise (Paris, je t’aime / New York, I Love You / Rio, Eu Te Amo). His movies have been distributed across more than 70 countries.

Emmanuel founded a social enterprise called the Cities of Love global initiative whose purpose is to spread love “in” and “for” cities. His currently hoping to establish the Cities of Love foundation in China.

Having lived in Shanghai for 7 years, and been travelling here for 18, Emmanuel was drawn to China because he believes the media can contribute to city development in unprecedented ways, and feels China is currently defining the nature of what will be an impactful imprint in global media. He feels compelled to work for the greater good, and has faith in Chinese development.


Stephany Zoo is from Shanghai and the US, having worked in fashion, tech and nonprofits, she strives to create stories that knit together diverse backgrounds. Deeply passionate about female empowerment, Stephany hopes to hone her management and process-driven skills in the corporate world, in order to one day help re-define and revolutionize the the nonprofit world and social impact business models.  Entrepreneurial at heart, Stephany founded BUNDSHOP.com, an ecommerce site that brought Chinese designers to the western world, and League X, a boutique branding firm that represented niche but fast growing Chinese tech startups.  Currently, she is the China Marketing Lead at SAP Anywhere, SAP’s flagship solution for small medium enterprises.  Her passion projects include Buzz & Bloom, a sex education platform for young Chinese women, and the League of Extraordinary Women, a women’s networking community focused on well-roundedness and balance.  She is also the the Shanghai Curator of the World Economic Forum Global Shapers.  She graduated from Princeton with an undergraduate degree in Economics and East Asian Studies.


Stéfanie Vallée has 10 years of experience working within the APAC HR industry and with Fortune 100 companies, and a career spanning 20 years with governmental and entrepreneurial experience. Former country Head for an HK based Leadership company and former Career Advisor at Hult International Business school, she has coached people from 40 nationalities landing job in APAC, as well as making successful job transitions to higher ladder and gain more awareness around the global mindset required to succeed. She currently advises and coaches C-level managers from Chinese MNC’s and F100 companies in regards to Leadership. She is also a Shanghai TEDx speaker and facilitator of HR Global events in Shanghai and a former Canadian Top Performance athlete, ranked 4th in the World and 10 times Canadian Champion in White Water Kayaking. She speaks fluent English, French and has working proficiency level in Mandarin.


Nancy Pon, Sizzle Maker for PZAZD, is an artist, business leader and public speaker amongst many other things.  Her highest profile work to date has been as the creator of a public health campaign for China called WOW.  The WOW campaign won ten industry awards across the region.  A large part of the WOW campaign was based on a series of videos which reached over 1 Billion urban taxi passengers, and feature the lovable Jian Jian Jie exercise coach, the character for whom Nancy is the actress.

Nancy has more than 20 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, project management, hospitality and large scale international events. She has organized some of Shanghai’s largest events including the Special Olympics World Summer Games and the Shanghai Tennis Masters.  Trained as both as an engineer and an artist, Nancy has carved out a unique career meandering through private, public, and state owned companies before setting up her own operation, PZAZD.

She helped establish the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai in 2008, and continues to serve on the Advisory Council to the Board.  Currently, she is enrolled in the THNK School of Creative Leadership.


Rob Han is focused on sustainability, education and technology, and driven to create impact in these industries by intersecting business, design, and technology together. Originally from Australia with a background in mass-consumer marketing, he worked as a Brand Creative Director in luxury fashion before moving on to start his own startups. Rob is a social entrepreneur, the founder of Refuture, co-founder of Chirpary, and partner at Purple Spread.


Amelia Chappelow is an International Media Consultant, Radio & Film Producer and IPWS Board Member. Known as a content manager “dynamo”, with over 13 years of media experience & leadership at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. She lead National Radio Program Teams, organised large-scale Live Music & Comedy Events and worked with celebrities & media personalities from all over the world.

In Shanghai, Amelia has been sharing her digital storytelling experience through Blogging Workshops ‘M Blog Club’ at M on the Bund’s Glam Bar, while also moderating at the Shanghai Literary Festival, hosted social media presentations and presented at the Shanghai International Comedy Festival and recently judged alongside Dashan at Shanghai’s China International Comedy Festival at Kung Fu Komedy.

An IPWS Board Member since January 2016, Amelia is an enthusiastic, positive and vibrant member of the community and is passionate about connecting professional women.


Ripley Lin is a certified facilitator and graphic recorder from Ikuai Inspirational Workshop.  A graduate from the State University of New York with a degree in Fine Art, Ripley is passionate about art and art education via interactive facilitation and participation. Riley has worked with JP Focus Fashion studio, Danceshopper.com, Taipei Fine Arts Museum and Taiwan Children’s Reading Association. She also works with not-for-profit organizations and has more recently commenced graphic recording projects as well.
