Last week we brought together a panel to discuss the repercussions of AI as it pertains to diversity and equality.
We were joined by four panelists who came from all different backgrounds, which made for a bold dialogue on the subject matter.
There is no definitive answer to the question, “will AI support diversity” but the panel did spark some interesting debates around several issues including;
Who is responsible for ensuring our own bias’ do not reflect in the machines we build? Is it the programmers, the designers or the owners of the project?
Are we too willing to give up our intelligence to machines?
How should education change to ensure that those with the least resources are still able to find jobs?
Is there such a thing as necessary discrimination to avoid risk?
How do we shift business thinking from short term results, which often lead to bias, to long term strategy which is more sustainable?
Sound like tough questions? Our audience engaged in questions and discussion with the panelists until the venue actually had to close for the evening!
Thank you to all those who came out to join us, and to our amazing moderator and panelists.
In addition to our monthly IPWS Thought Activator we will be bringing you events like this each quarter. We hope to see you next week at our December Thought Activator and at future events in the new year!
