On May 31st, IPWS is proud to bring you the IPWS Summit for a fourth year in a row. This event brings together leaders and influencers from all over the world and across industries for an afternoon of exciting talks, engaging content and excellent networking opportunities.
The event will feature a diverse lineup of speakers, and throughout the event the audience will take part in an interactive workshop that will provide each attendee with practical tools. If you haven’t already, make sure to get your ticket here!
We asked guests who attended the Summit in previous years to tell us about their experience at the IPWS Summit.

Shanghai offers so many exciting events, what makes the IPWS Summit stand out?
There is a very unique voice I have heard in each of the IPWS Summits I have attended. The speakers panelists are of a high caliber which brings forth interesting perspectives and information which I actually want to hear. There was also great diversity of opinions and backgrounds which I really appreciated. There really was no dull moment.
Why did you attend the 2018 Summit, and why are you going again?
I have known some amazing women who have been on the board and they have luckily steered me to the Summits from the very beginning. Given the success of the past, why would I not want to join every year.
What was your favorite part of last year’s Summit? What did you get out of the conference last year?
My favorite part was discussing the topics the speakers presented during the social break out periods. Everyone was engaged and excited to share their perspectives. The break outs were not just networking but extension of what we were learning. This was very special to IPWS.
What is your expectation for this year?
For the same wonderful day of lectures, panels and socializing. Love it!
Three things that make the IPWS Summit stand out for me are:
- The purpose of the event is clear and achievable. When there you know that there is a kindred spirit of respect and common social purpose dedicated to listening and supporting each other. This is not typical at other events of this nature.
- The level of talent and leadership from the speakers is very impressive.
- Your audience is large and influential, the social aspect of the event was remarkable.

Shanghai offers so many exciting events, what makes the IPWS Summit stand out?
The IPWS Summit weaves its magic by featuring amazing speakers who reflect on leadership and life lessons and sprinkle in larges doses of inspiration to keep you going for a year … until the next Summit conveniently rolls around. Over the course of the Summit, women and men across a mix of ages, industries, countries, and representing truly diverse life experiences come together to share their wisdom on how to navigate professional and personal challenges — reflections that come from their successes as well as their mistakes and failures. Honoring the annual IPWS awardees at the Summit provides a special moment to celebrate and cherish women’s and He-For-She contributions to society. Finally, the IPWS community is thoughtful, engaged, and committed, and the Summit occurs at a lovely venue that enables lastings human connections.
Why did you attend the 2018 Summit, and why are you going again?
I was excited to be an IPWS Board Member in 2018 and part of the team of hardworking Board members and volunteers that curate and host the Leadership Summit. However, even if I was not on the planning committee, I would not have missed participating in the 2018 Summit. Why? Each year the theme changes, and the theme is incredibly timely and relevant for women and men regardless of what stage they are entering in their careers and personal lives. The IPWS 2017 Summit discussed the concept of women and “power”, and I remember being struck by the following takeaways from two different keynote speakers : 1) Power is not about achieving a certain work title, but rather how you choose to use your title or platform to make a positive difference in the world 2) Women think they need “permission” to take “power,” Rather, grab it – it’s there waiting for you!
Moving on to the 2018 Summit, we intentionally focused on the theme of leading with Confidence. While not planned ahead of time, every one of our speakers used their presentation to first share and show their vulnerabilities, and then deconstruct how each vulnerability and their ability to embrace and conquer it became their strengths.
Why would you recommend others to attend the IPWS Summit?
Time well spent with an energetic, passionate, and intelligent community in a beautiful setting over laughter and serious pondering – what’s not to recommend?
What was your favorite part of last year’s Summit? What did you get out of the conference last year?
As a Board member, my favorite part was being behind the scenes: Putting together a thoughtful and inclusive jury committee who shared their own perspectives on how leadership is created and demonstrated was fun. I further enjoyed watching the media team send daily and monthly observations on the value of community to propel women forward professionally and personally. The venue at the Bellagio with an incredible animation backdrop could not have been more classy, savvy, and beautiful. Finally and most important for me on the day of the Summit, as a “content nerd,” I soaked up each keynote and presentation and reflected on how I could apply the speaker’s lessons to my life.
What is your expectation for this year?
I will be cheering on IPWS from overseas as I know the Summit will continue to benefit countless men and women. I attended my first Summit in 2016 after serving as the Chair of the Jury Committee and developed beautiful friendships with my fellow jurors from that experience. After speaking at a joint IPWS/Lean In committee in 2017, I made sure to block off the 2017 Summit in my calendar, and walked away even more impressed. That lead me to join the IPWS Board in 2018, and I enjoyed being able to contribute to the 2018 Leadership Summit and give back to the community that I relied on when I first arrived in Shanghai.
Three things that make the IPWS Summit stand out for me are:
Deep reflection, practical takeaway lessons that can be implemented today, and professional and personal friendships.

Shanghai offers so many exciting events, what makes the IPWS Summit stand out?
Simple, it’s a community that thrives through diversity and inclusivity. Meaning everyone is dynamic & diverse in who they are, what they do, how they got here (in life & career), yet there’s is a sensitivity in terms of embracing this diversity in a very communal inclusive manner. Everyone is genuinely there to support, to lift, to guide, to share and to grow together. That to me is what makes IPWS stands out.
Why did you attend the 2018 Summit, and why are you going again?
I attended out of curiosity & mainly to overcome my fear of being in ‘just another girl community’.The fear was stemmed from being bullied terribly in high school with a bunch of girl (was a story I shared previously). Hence I wanted to pluck up the courage and put myself out there to tell myself that not every girl community is what happened in high school. And IPWS proved itself right. Though unfortunately I’m unable to attend the 2019 due to work travels, I’ll join the smaller group session that IPWS conducts on a monthly basis.
Why would you recommend others to attend the IPWS Summit?
As mentioned above, the embracement of diversity in an inclusive manner is the key driver for me to recommend IPWS to others. It’s not the just the summit that any women should attend, it’s the IPWS as a community that they should let themselves be part of a bigger cause.
What was your favorite part of last year’s Summit? What did you get out of the conference last year?
My favorite part was all the stories that everyone shared on that day, the guest speakers, the winners, the attendees, each of them had great stories to share which allows everyone to learn, thrive & grow from it.
What is your expectation for this year?
My expectation that there will be more women & men coming for the Summit and there will be more people who will rally for the IPWS cause even more.
Three things that make the IPWS Summit stand out for me are:
Embracing diversity in an inclusive manner
Genuine connection
The ambition to thrive & grow together.
