Event Takeaways
1. Slow Down & Breathe
Julie Brument
‘You can’t do a down-dog infront of your boss, but you can breathe.’
Breathwork is a secret weapon that can reframe a stressful situation and decrease anxiety. Practising breath awareness puts power back in your hands and provides a competitive advantage to help you perform better. Other breathwork benefits include:
– Regulating our nervous system, and reduce the effects of stress on the body
– Enhancing our physical health
– Improving digestion
– Improving sleep
– Increasing happiness and self love
– Improving concentration and performances
2. Incorporate Regular Pelvic Phyical Therapy
Yiting Zhang, Physical Therapist
‘Who do you speak to if you can’t hold your pee at work?’
Women returning to work from maternity leave may experience urinary incontinence, which can result in self-judgement and suffering in silence
Pelvic health physical therapy is a crucial part of rehabilitation not only evaluating pelvic floor function, but also retraining pelvic floor muscle activation during daily activities, and facilitating active recovery to previous functional level and sports activities.
3. Practice Mindfulness Daily
(But Don’t Judge Yourself If You Don’t)
Karlene Rowland
Mental Health Counselor, Community Center Shanghai
‘What does mindfulness look like to you?’
There is no prescribed formula to practice mindfulness. Instead, it is about being fully present and acknowledging our thoughts and feelings. The goal is to do a body scan of where we are today and how to support ourselves.
Mindfulness is recommended as a daily practice by starting small and building up. And be kind to yourself if you fall off the bandwagon
4. Get Curious & Ask R U Ok?
Jeff Hasenfratz
Learning to ask, ‘Are you Ok?’ and listening meaningfully can help people struggling with life feel connected. Besides creating a connection and sense of support, engaging those struggling can make a real difference.
Knowing how to ask ‘R U Ok’ sensitively, listening actively, and regularly following up is vital to creating a safe space for people to engage confidently in difficult conversations.
