Should I really nominate myself for the Women Leadership Awards?

The 2020 Women Leadership Awards (WLA) are in full swing with nominations open until the new extended deadline, Sunday, April 19th, 10 PM.

However, one of the most common questions we receive is Should I really nominate myself? Is it appropriate? Wouldn’t it reflect negatively on my nomination?

The answer is; it is fully appropriate, and actually highly encouraged to nominate yourself for the WLA.

You alone know your accomplishments better than anyone, and are by far the most capable person to tell your own story.

We’re living in a time of great uncertainty, but for better or for worse, this challenging situation has left many of us with more free time than ever before. We warmly encourage you to use some of this time to focus on the positive and reflect on all the things you have learned and accomplished in your career. Really allow yourself to recognize and celebrate your unique achievements, and take that step to submit a nomination for yourself for one of the seven categories of this year’s Women Leadership Awards.

In addition, we hope that everyone in our community will join us in spreading positivity and lifting each other up by nominating at least one inspiring individual that deserves to be recognized. It can be your boss, a friend, a colleague, or any professional person in your network who has made a marked difference.

If you receive an email notifying that you have been nominated by someone else, CONGRATULATIONS! However, we still warmly encourage you to supplement your information by submitting a self-nomination with your preferred bio, photograph and personal story. This way you ensure that your nomination complies with award criteria and that all your information considered by the WLA Jury is fully accurate and up to date.
