March is a special month, as we not only celebrate Women’s Day, but in China, we continue to recognize the 40th anniversary of China’s Opening Up. A major milestone for China and for many expats who have since moved here and call China home.
IPWS held a special event to recognize women who have lived in China during this period and witnessed the rapid, and grandiose development of this country. We asked them to share their experiences, insights and most “teachable moments” with the IPWS community.
This event was extra special because IPWS has partnered with live storytelling platform, Unravel. The Unravel team helped our panel of women to deliver their story in a unique, and impactful manner.
Each of our three speakers delivered riveting tales of their time in China, from being born here, to moving to Anhui province in the 80’s, and publishing a book about the Chinese education system – each woman had a unique perspective to share, but one clear message: in China, we are observers. We are not here to change the culture, but to respect and learn from it.
We are incredibly grateful to the women who volunteered hours of their time to craft, practice and deliver these amazing stories, as well as to the Unravel team for bringing the whole process together.
