[Event Recap] Excel at Leading Change

On October 26, Weiwei Jiang, Managing Director of Ivoclar Vivadent Greater China, Korea and Mongolia,  shared her insights with IPWS community on ‘Why Women Leaders Excel at Leading Change’.

 

She shed the light on the concept of change and transformation, highlighting the importance of adapting to a dynamic world, discussed the challenges faced by individuals and leaders in managing multiple tasks, and the driving forces behind transformation, delve into the role of women empower organizations with leadership skills during change.

1.Leading Successful Change in a rapidly changing world

Everyday life is changing rapidly, and we could learn from this. Weiwei  explored the essential attributes of successfully driving change. As individuals, we need to take proactive steps to lead successful change in our professions and personal lives.

 

There are various factors driving transformation, including external market changes, customer demand, and competitors. Additionally, women faced many challenges in managing multiple tasks, alternatives based statistics to prove that the women are very often better leaders than men in the change management. Leadership is important in guiding and driving successful change in today’s rapidly changing world. There have 4 stages of change: denied, resistance, explore, commitment, successful management of these stages leads to successful transformation.

 

2.CSI: Change Style Indicator

CSI identifies a preference for change based on three dimensions: conservative, originator, and pragmatist. People need to focus on diagnosis and listening to team members’ opinions during the change process. Resources and priorities should be evaluated, and recharging oneself is crucial for success. It is important to maintain the original vision and be flexible with resource limitations.

 

3.Transformation Strategy and Engagement

The keys to implementing a transformation strategy focus on sharing the management statement, vision, and KPI priorities. Communication efforts include regular meetings, emails, and training sessions. Employee skills and engagement are important, along with transparency and empowerment. It’s essential to leveraging resources and connecting with other departments and companies for a successful transformation journey. Inviting consulting companies and organizing workshops are good strategies for building momentum and achieving short-term wins.

 

4.Leadership Tips for Successful Organizational Change

Weiwei Jiang is a seasoned business leader with a wealth of experience and expertise spanning multiple industries and global regions. Her diverse skill set and entrepreneurial mindset make her a well-rounded leader capable of driving growth, navigating complex situations and fostering innovation within organizations.

 

Currently Weiwei serves as the Managing Director of Ivoclar Vivadent Greater China, Korea and Mongolia, a leading edge global dental company headquartered in Schaan, Liechtenstein. Under her leadership the business continuously outperforms the market, earning a reputation as a pioneer in continuous improvement within the group.

 

Before her tenure at Ivoclar Vivadent, Weiwei held the position of Managing Director at KLS Martin China, a German company specializing in surgical products and technologies. She successfully turned around the business within a year, setting the

stage for the implementation of a comprehensive five-year development roadmap.

 

Prior to her role at KLS Martin, Weiwei spent 15 years working for Air Liquide, the world leader in gases, technologies and services for Industry and Health. Her journey began in 2005 as Operations Manager for Asia Pacific at Air Liquide America’s Specialty Gas Division in Singapore. Weiwei’s career within the organization evolved to encompass various roles in Sales, business development and General management in both the USA and China. She lent her expertise to a spectrum of business lines, including Industrial Merchant, Home Healthcare, Medical Gas and New Energy. In her final role at Air Liquide, Weiwei served as the Senior Director of the Healthcare Business Line in Air Liquide China, where she not only managed daily operations but also actively pursuing M&A opportunities, spearheaded new business development initiatives and engaged in public reimbursement lobbying.

 

Weiwei’s professional journey commenced as a Planning Engineer at TECH Semiconductor and STATS ChipPAC from 2001 to 2005, based in Singapore.

 

Weiwei Jiang holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science from Fudan University, a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore, and an MBA with a specialization in Finance from Nanyang Technological University.

 

Q: What motivates you to actively drive transformation?

A: I am passionate about making a positive impact in any industries, organizations, or communities I work for. The belief that my vision will bring a better future to the organization or industry, my desire for innovation and my strong sense of responsibility give me motivations to drive the necessary change towards the vision.  My personal value and ethics also play important roles in motivating me to drive transformation that better align the organization with my values and principles. Very often the change has to start with changing yourself as a leader, I have strong internal drive for continuous improvement of myself and I always make sure that I connect the dots between new leadership styles and the more tactical changes happening in the organization.       

 

Q: Can you recommend any books that you believe provide valuable insights on topics like transformation, leadership, or personal growth?

A:  I would recommend below books: Good Power by Gianni Rometty, Principles by Ray Dalio, Leadership Machine by Michael M. Lombardo & Robert W. Eichinger.
