What started as a small gathering in the corner of a bar has turned into a monthly event that sells out 150+ tickets within minutes.
Unravel has become a Shanghai-sensation, and while it has evolved over the past two years, their Unravel Live segment has drawn over 100 people, from students to c-level executives to share personal stories — ranging from hilarious to tragic — in front of hundreds of people.
Being vulnerable, being raw, being real is an act that takes real courage — yet Unravel has provided the tools and the platform for people to harness their own courage and share it with the world.
As this year’s Summit theme is The Courage to Lead, it was a natural fit to include Unravel as our active conferencing partner.
The IPWS Summit is one of the few large-scale leadership conferences in Shanghai to have implemented an active conferencing portion – this gets attendees out of their seat, interacting with each other, and pushing their own boundaries, bringing attendees from observers, to participators.

About Unravel
Unravel is a platform dedicated to harnessing the power of stories for impact and connection. We produce a monthly, curated live show where storytellers share true personal narratives inspired by a given theme. We work with local partners and initiatives to empower individuals and organizations to tell stories more effectively.
Our mission is to amplify and create space for human stories through community engagement and original content.
Unravel has helped over 100 storytellers from more than 25 countries share their stories to an audience of over 2000 subscribers and supporters. We have also worked with organizations and initiatives to support and raise awareness for our community including LGBTQ+ activists Les Queers, eco warriors Green Initiatives, mental health advocates Lifeline Shanghai, and the guerilla pop art initiative Top 5.
Since our first show in February 2017, we have popped up in venues across Shanghai, from neighborhood watering holes to China’s first carbon neutral hotel, from the atrium of a converted opium factory to the first China taproom of an American craft brewery.
In addition to our monthly live shows and original content, we engage with community and corporate partners with our workshop series + special projects arm, Unravel Impact. We help teams, peers, employees, students, and friends harness the power of storytelling to fulfil a myriad of professional and personal objectives.
